Jingling With Alan Davie

Draw Jam & Open Studios with Artist in Residence Laura Hudson

Investigating the signs and symbols in the work of Scottish painter Alan Davie at The Alan Davie Gallery, Hertford Arts Hub 2020

Join artist in residence Laura Hudson on a journey in search of jings!*, the magical signs, symbols and forms that can be found in the work of Alan Davie.

During her residency, Laura will be working on an Archive of Uncertain Jings. Through speculative analysis, a playful taxonomy for each of the jings will be devised to form a fictional keepers chart, an archive of uncertain jings!

We invite anyone interested in words or pictures to join artist Laura Hudson on her highly speculative and humorous journey into knowing and not knowing, searching for Jings! in the work of Alan Davie. This is an opportunity to join-in, pop-by, make pictures, make words, discuss jings!.

*jings! is a Scottish interjection used as an exclamation of surprise or in lieu of swearing, a word that seems to be playfully apt for Alan Davie’s enigmatic signs, forms and symbols.
