Collaborative Journey Drawing

September 12, 2015 in Drawing

Laura Hudson; Collaborative Journey Drawing,  Plymouth Art Weekender

Playing on the 'you are here' maps commonly found in towns and cities, You are Here is the destination for a collaborative journey drawing. Visitors are invited to use memory to map their paths, tracing back the route they took in getting here. Collectively drawing on memory in order to trace our separate and combined journeys onto paper.

Recollection is a curious thing; information comes in and is uniquely ordered, each according to our own experiences and the connections that allow new memories to relate to old ones.
These memories can be rooted in the real world, to the actual journey, in the realms of the conceptual or symbolic.

Drawing a simple line, remembered buildings, curiosities observed, words, symbols and signs can all play a part in drawing a journey. On a large scale the drawing paper becomes place; each person leaves a trace of the path they took and of their presence in the here and now. The finished drawing will tell our combined story.

Laura Hudson's journey drawings are large scale, drawn from memory and trace combined or singular journey's taken. Journey to Castle Hil was used as example on the Expanded Field of Drawin course at the Slade School of Art.

Missing my studio so much - this was where I left it just before heading to Scotland to look after my mum Dec 1 - can’t wait to get back to it. Brushes all clean and at the ready. #lockdown #londonartist #twistsandturns

No socialising - bring the party home 70s style. A big happy Hogmanay to all let’s hope we together can make 2021 a year to be proud of despite the fall out of 2020.
